On April 1, 2026 Mattydale Fire responded to a natural gas leak just before 6:30 pm. Mattydale Car 1, Car 2, Truck 3, and Fire Police were on scene quickly. National grid was already on scene as well as the person who made the request for the fire department.

On arrival national grid advised fire units, there were extremely high levels of natural gas within the building. Due to the high levels and a large building, national grid requested the fire department assistance with ventilation. Mattydale began with ventilation efforts.

After some time and ventilation efforts showed levels hadn't changed, adjacent areas were checked which also resulted in having high levels.

Mattydale command requested mutual aid from Hinsdale and Lyncourt Fire Department for assistance with ventilation in multiple areas with high levels.

While companies were operating, the cause of the leak was found and mitigated properly and safely. Together, the departments were able to ventilate all building areas and bring the gas levels down without incident.

The building was turned back over to the owners and national grid.

We would like to thank our mutual aid partners with Hinsdale and Lyncourt on their assistance with this alarm. Companies were returned to service just after 8:30pm.
