On Feb 22 at 0150, Mattydale Fire Department along with mutual aid companies from Hinsdale, Liverpool, Lyncourt, East Syracuse and Moyers Corners were alerted to a residential house fire in the Mattydale district. While companies were responding, an update from Onondaga County Fire Communication Center reported everyone was out of the house and police reported heavy smoke on the second floor. Liverpool Car-1 arrived giving a report of a 2 story wood frame residence with smoke showing from the second floor. Mattydale Truck-3 arrived as the first due apparatus securing our own water supply, and deploying a 1 3/4in hand line advancing it into the residence. Liverpool engine~5, Hinsdale-TP-6 and Mattydale squad-4 not far behind, Liverpool was tasked with search and rescue while Hinsdale secured a second water supply as well as deployed a backup line. Due to the conditions on the second floor the alarm was upgraded to a signal 99. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes from dispatch keeping the fire damage to a minimal on the second floor. Crews assisted with other various tasks on scene such as overhaul, securing utilities, and repacking hoses. All mutual aid units were returned to service an hour after dispatch. Mattydale Truck-3 and Squad-4 remained on scene with the Onondaga County Fire Investigation Unit while they determined the cause of the fire. All Mattydale units were returned to service just over 2 hours after dispatch. No injuries were reported, the American Red Cross assisted the occupants of the residence. We would like to thank all agencies that assisted on the scene. Mattydale truck-3, squad-4 |
